Southern Suburbs
The Southern Suburbs of Cape Town form one of the older and more gracious areas, with fine homes, many trees, the Constantia Wine Route on the doorstep and popular shopping centres such as Cavendish Square in Claremont, Constantia Village in Constantia and the Blue Route Mall in Tokai. The world-renowned Kirstenbosch National Botanic Garden and beaches at Hout Bay and Muizenberg are easily accessible. Newlands in the Southern Suburbs is the famous home of rugby and cricket in the Western Cape and many international matches are played at the hallowed grounds. This is a most popular area as a base for exploring the Cape Peninsula and the South Western Cape

A most convenient area from which to reach not only Cape Town City Centre and the Waterfront, but also the beaches of Blouberg, the shops of Canal Walk and rides at Ratanga Junction in one direction and the winelands of Durbanville and the shopping at Tygervalley in another. This area is also most conveniently situated for trips to the wine regions of Paarl and Stellenbosch. Driving around Cape Town
Most of the areas of Cape Town are linked together by a system of freeways. Along the Peninsula Atlantic Seaboard and the False Bay Coast, the roads are neither freeway nor dual carriageway, but the scenery more than compensates for the lack of speed. If possible, avoid the weekly "rush hours" radiating to the city centre in the mornings (from about 6.45 am to about 8.30 am) and from the city centre in the late afternoons (about 4.30pm to about 6.00pm and earlier on Fridays)
